Upon completion of any EMS education program, students are expected to be able to perform at a "minimum competency level."
This is the expectation of the the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians as well as most state EMS boards.
As a result, many new EMTs and Paramedics undergo many months of rigorous, and often demoralizing, orientation before they are deemed ready to be on their own.
After talking with thousands of new EMTs, Paramedics, and Nurses during my career, one common theme always come up when discussing their transition from student to practitioner; almost everyone felt completely underprepared and overwhelmed with the amount of knowledge they didn't know. Now, after having taught hundreds of new EMTs, Paramedics, and Nurses, both in class as well as in the field, I always make sure my "students" understand early on in their training that the real learning beginning only when they finish school.
This way they have a realistic expectation of what lies ahead. Research shows that the more ways a student is presented with information, and the better they will "encode" the knowledge into thier long term memory and be able to apply it to real life scenarios.
Using this concept, my mission is to maximize knowledge conversion (the efficiency of converting theory into practice) by presenting ideas taught in the classroom in new and novel ways gained through my experience in Emergency Response and Crisis Mitigation as a Search and Rescue Specialist in the US Coast Guard, a 911 Service Paramedic, and as a Critical Care Flight Paramedic teaching a whole spectrum of specialists. FlightCrit is now offering LIVE one-on-one or group tutoring Webinars for EMT and Paramedic students designed to MAXIMIZE your understanding of the material being presented in class and ACCELERATE your conversion of knowledge into actionable skills.
